The foundation of this university, which has faced many closure efforts, was laid in 2018 by former Home Minister Narottam Mishra.  During the Congress government, there were many attempts to close the university, but they could not succeed. Prof K G Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism (MCU) called upon the youth to observe traffic rules and avoid reckless driving to prevent accidents, deaths and serious injuries. He was speaking at the workshop on “Reducing Traffic Accidents vis a vis Injury and Fatalities through Reducing Traffic Speed” organised jointly by National Centre for Human Settlements & Environment (NCHSE), Bhopal, Consumer Voice, New Delhi and MCU, Bhopal on 24th November, 2021 to mark the “World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims”. The objectives of the workshop were to encourage youth to observe traffic rules and avoid reckless driving to prevent accidents, deaths and serious injuries. In Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, a two-day cleanliness and plantation program was organized on Environment Week by the unit of NCC and NSS under the Amrit Mahotsav festival of independence.  In this sequence, on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. KG Suresh along with other professors and volunteers planted saplings. Datia Kickboxing training camp is being organized in Datia district for the first time after getting recognition from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of India. Giving the above information, Kickboxing Association of Madhya Pradesh President Master Said Alam and Secretary Manish Arya said that state kickboxing coach Vinod Sondawale would provide training to the players, especially with detailed information about the events of kickboxing.
